Photographer Herbert Hale offers us a different view of the Pillars of Hercules, also called the Needles, in the Columbia Gorge. In 1899 the Northern Pacific railway tracks passed between the pillars; now they and the interstate highway travel past the distinctive rocks on the river side.
In detail view 2 can be seen the edge of the town of Bridal Veil just upstream.
