The original for this panoramic view is a hand-tinted print included in "Crater Lake National Park, Oregon", published by Swem's Studio in Medford. The scene includes an intriguing fabrication.
The new north wing of the lodge is depicted as being one continuous addition (see detail view 1), when in fact it was composed of a "bridge" section and a different sized outer section. Our best theory is that Swem's Studio sent this to print before the addition was completed, and what we see of it is hand-drawn on a photo taken before the addition.
It's a striking image, with a mystery.
