The Chanticleer Inn, at the west end of the Columbia River Highway, was built in 1912 and predated the highway. Like many early wooden inns, it burned down, in 1930.
The Chanticleer Inn, at the west end of the Columbia River Highway, was built in 1912 and predated the highway. Like many early wooden inns, it burned down, in 1930.
After the Inn burned the property was purchased by the Portland Women's Forum and donated to the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department. The location is now known as the Portland Women's Forum Scenic Viewpoint, and provides a great view of Crown Point and the Columbia Gorge beyond.
