Seaside was booming at the time this photograph was created. The town grew from 400 in 1902 to 1600 inhabitants in 1910, and thousands of visitors flocked to the town each summer.

We're looking east on Shell Road, which was originally built as a wide path from the Grimes Hotel to the beach. These days it's known as Broadway.
Detail view 1 gives us a good look at tourists strolling by the postcard shop.
