The ocean-going steamer Alliance pulls away from the docks in Marshfield, behind the much smaller Blanco, used for travel within the Coos Bay area. The Alliance, at 165 by 35 feet, was built in 1896 by the California and Oregon Coast Steamship Company. At various times it ran from Portland to Marshfield (now Coos Bay), and it also was used on the Seattle to Alaska run.
