This view of Mitchell's Point Tunnel, on the old Columbia River Highway, is recreated from a hand-colored print by Cross & Dimmitt. The original print was one of 18 individually hand-tinted views published in 1921 in "The Columbia River Highway, American's Greatest Scenic Drive".
The dramatic tunnel was eventually considered too small due to the proliferation of larger cars and trucks, and was replaced in 1954.
