This photo was taken to celebrate the opening of the Cascade Locks on November 5, 1896. The four steamers that passed through on that occasion were the Maria, Dalles City, Harvest Queen, and Sarah Dixon. Note in detail view 1 the fir trees attached to ships as part of the celebration.
