Two icons meet in one photograph by Ralph Eddy. The new is the St. Johns Bridge, dedicated two years earlier. The old is "Old Ironsides", the U.S.S. Constitution, dedicated in 1797.

It's hard to imagine Old Ironsides ever returning to the Pacific Northwest; this 1933 visit was her one and only trip to the Pacific.
She did not make the trip under sail, but was carefully towed the entire way.
