Details

Portland citizen John Yeon is driving the first car (an air-cooled Franklin) with his passenger Mrs. French Vanderbilt. Some of her relatives and friends join the party. Yeon, a wealthy lumberman, had a special interest in the highway. He volunteered as Multnomah County's road master for $1 a year to supervise its construction.
