Details
Climbers and others familiar with the upper elevations of Mt. Hood will recognize how the glaciers have changed since this photo was taken 125 years ago.
Frank Abell, the photographer, has utilized a number of trees in the foreground to create a graceful portrait of the mountain.
As is still true today, photographers in the 1800s felt the need to have several photos of Mt. Hood as part of their portfolios. The original for this view is a "boudoir card", a card-mounted format of about 4 1/2 by 8 inches.
