There are thousands of photos of Mt. Hood. This is one of the earlier ones, taken by pioneer photographer Joseph Buchtel in about 1873.
Buchtel began as a daguerreotyper in the 1850s, when almost all photos were taken indoors in studios. By the 1870s he was creating an early series of scenic views of Oregon landmarks, including the one shown here.
