This studio portrait by an unidentified photographer shows a mother and son in fine ceremonial garb, probably taken somewhere in north-central Oregon.
This studio portrait by an unidentified photographer shows a mother and son in fine ceremonial garb, probably taken somewhere in north-central Oregon. Their clothing identifies them as a Plateau tribe, likely Nez Perce or Wasco.
This contradicts an early notation in handwriting stating they were from the Modoc tribe in southern Oregon, but one thing studying old photos teaches us is that incorrect identification is not a recent invention.
