This overview of the Exposition is the work of talented amateur photographer Olaf Indahl, who often captured slightly different views of the fair than those published by the promoters.
This overview of the Exposition is the work of talented amateur photographer Olaf Indahl, who often captured slightly different views of the fair than those published by the promoters. In this scene we can see not only the fair buildings, but also some of the surrounding neighborhoods.
Detail view 1, for instance, shows the modest homes on the other side of the fence, a tall ship or two on the Willamette, and industrial buildings on the other side of the river. Detail view 2 shows some of the shops on the promenade to Government Island, including Cafe Rainier, next to Guilds Lake, which has since been drained.
