Two steamboats arrive to help clear out a logjam under a bridge somewhere on the upper Willamette River.
In detail view 1 we can just see a number of spectators that have shown up to observe the immense number of logs both below and behind them.
Huge logjams were actually a natural phenomena and already existed when early settlers first arrived in Oregon. The one in this photo, however, consists almost entirely of cut logs that probably broke away in a flood.
