We're looking downstream at the Willamette Locks, and have a good view of both the two sternwheelers and many of the buildings on the river side of locks.
We're looking downstream at the Willamette Locks, and have a good view of both the two sternwheelers and many of the buildings on the river side of locks. The N. R. Lang, owned by the Willamette Pulp and Paper Company, located at the locks, is nearer to us and can be identified.
It's probable the second steamer is the Ruth, the other ship owned by Willamette Pulp and Paper. The presence of Mill D, shown in detail view 2, helps date the photo, as it was completed in 1907. In 1914 Willamette Pulp and Paper would merge with Crown Columbia, the other paper mill at the locks, and for the first time since the 1880s there would be only one paper mill at this location.
