Detail 1 shows the family's horses and "travois" -- a carrying device made from two poles to pull heavy loads. This device was adopted from tribes east of the Rocky Mountains. Smaller versions of the travois were sometimes pulled by dogs.
Detail 2 shows the scalloped pattern at the river's edge, indicating the changing water levels that occurred at this spot.
