Comet Falls are generally considered to be one of the most spectacular falls in Mt. Rainier National Park, and are definitely one of the most visited. Over 300 feet high, they drain into Van Trump Creek on the south side of the mountain, which then flows into the Nisqually River.
You can take a well-maintained trail to the top of the falls, in a hanging valley known as Van Trump Park. Both the park and the creek are named after P. B. Van Trump, who accompanied Hazard Stevens in the first documented ascent of Mt. Rainier in 1870.
