For this large sheep shearing operation, power for the shears came through an overhead mechanism running the length of the shed. The articulated arm for the shears looked something like an old dentist drill.
For this large sheep shearing operation, power for the shears came through an overhead mechanism running the length of the shed. The articulated arm for the shears looked something like an old dentist drill. Power for the mechanism was provided either by steam or electricity.
Many sheep ranches were located in the Heppner area. Contracted shearing crews moved from ranch to ranch, usually working outside. In this case the structure appears to be specifically designed to handle shearing indoors.
