In 1903, a promotional excursion to Crater Lake was organized by Will G. Steel, who advocated for the newly designated national park there for years.
Here, on August 5, we see some of the group on Main Street in downtown Medford, beginning their adventure. Detail view 1 shows us the young boys who always seemed to show up for photos, as well as one of the expedition members who traveled by bicycle. Detail view 2 shows one of the wagons, with the bearded Joaquin Miller in the shadows.
Thanks to Ben Truwe, who informed me of the exact date, and pointed out the party was photographed facing away from Crater Lake (towards the west) for some reason.
