Cloud Cap Inn was opened on the north side of Mt. Hood in 1889, a project of William S. Ladd and C.E.S. Wood. These cabins were built at the front of the main Inn.
Both the main building and the cabins were buffeted by extremely high winds, and thus all were tied down by cables attached to buried foundations, which can be clearly seen in this photo. The cabins did not last many years, but the remains of their cables can still be seen today by visitors to the old Inn.
