This photo by Newport photographer Albert Thomas demonstrates his skill at capturing movement at a time when most photographs required long exposure times.
This photo by Newport photographer Albert Thomas demonstrates his skill at capturing movement at a time when most photographs required long exposure times. Detail view 1 especially shows the droplets of water created when the ocean surf crashed into the rocks along the shoreline.
Soon after opening a curio shop in Newport in 1895, Thomas got his start in photography when he purchased a camera and darkroom from a neighboring studio that was going out of business. For over forty years he produced some of the best views of the central Oregon coast.
