A young man in a mixture of traditional and store-bought attire sits solemnly for a portrait.
At the turn of the last century, portraits of Native Americans were all the rage, and many photographers jumped in to create views for sale. Often they dressed their subjects in props they had accumulated from a mixture of tribes. This photo was taken by Dio D. Wilder, who practiced his craft in The Dalles from 1897 to 1913, and then moved on to Portland.
