We are looking west towards the river from near the intersection of what is now Highway 99, also known as the Goshen-Divide Highway. This is now Cottage Grove's Historic Downtown District. The Hotel Bartell still stands, currently known as the Cottage Grove Hotel building.
A number of other brick buildings are still there, including the Stewart Building just beyond the hotel. This highly detailed view by photographer Frank Patterson is recreated from his original glass negative, which was likely used by him only to make postcards. However, it is crisp and detailed (see the two detail views) and easily supports larger prints.
