This striking view of Phantom Ship island in Crater Lake was created by photographer Ralph Eddy during one of his early trips to the lake in 1926. Phantom Ship appears small in the context of the lake, but is actually 500 feet long and over 170 feet high.
It is formed of cooled lava that was forced up through fissures in the rock, and was the passageway for the lava that built at least the lower levels of Dutton Cliff to its left.
