The Harvest Queen was familiar to photographer Lily White, as she and other members of the Oregon Camera Club had traveled on it for their annual excursion in 1900, stopping along the Columbia for photo opportunities at Bridal Veil, Multnomah Falls, Castle Rock, and other locations.
The scene shown here may well have been captured by White from onboard her own houseboat, the Raysark, which she kept anchored in the Columbia, and which was itself moved up and down the river by steamboats.
