This companion view to the reaper photo seen in Related Items focuses on the Wallis tractor, used here to tow the Moline reaper. The Wallis Tractor Company of Racine, Wisconsin was founded in 1912, and pioneered unit construction in tractors, patenting a one-piece frame in 1913
The advantages of a one-piece frame were in material savings and in the permanent alignment of all shafts and bearings in the engine and transmission. Popular in the 1920s, the Wallis became the basis for Massey-Harris tractors after that company bought out Wallis in 1928.
