Lighthearted Kids in Merrill FSA Camp - 1939

While many of Dorothea Lange's Depression photos reveal the hardships and strain of life at that time, this view demonstrates that kids can still smile in any environment. Taken at the Merrill Farmers Security Administration Camp in Klamath County in October, 1939, the three children peek from a government-provided tent lent to their parents as temporary housing. Most families built simple shelters as soon as possible, working to provide warmth for themselves before winter arrived. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
