Details

The Government Building hosted exhibits from many branches of the U. S. government at the Lewis and Clark Expositon - including the military. Here two types of tents fill the east lawn near the waters of Guild's Lake. In 1905 the U. S. Military occupied the Philippines after the end of the Spanish-American War. As their presence there was somewhat controversial, one of the themes of the Government Building was to show resources from the Philippines, and to display our military forces in a positive light. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
