Details

First Street in Marshfield, now Coos Bay, was a busy place in 1910. For some reason, everyone in this photo appears to be headed the other way. The street appears to be "corduroy", the name given to paving with wooden planks to deal with Oregon mud. The building on the left is the Blanco Hotel, the second hotel in Marshield. Its original, smaller, structure was built in 1869 by George Stauff, father of Ernest Stauff, a photographer whose work is featured elsewhere on this site. -- This photo is restored and printed by Old Oregon.
