At the time this photo was taken, Eden Park Glacier, on the northwest base of Mt. Hood, had recently been discovered (and named) and made accessible by the construction of a trail from the Hood River Valley.
In detail view 1, we see members of the Wiyeast Club, a mountaineering organization from Hood River, as they explore the natural bowl of the glacier, as well as its great vistas. The club was founded in 1923, partly in response to early visits in 1922 to the newly opened trail and glacier.
