Elowah Falls are on McCord Creek, and were originally called McCord Falls, which is the name given on our hand-tinted original print.
Elowah Falls are on McCord Creek, and were originally called McCord Falls, which is the name given to them on our hand-tinted original print.
About the time that print was created, the Mazamas successfully lobbied to have the name changed to Elowah, the meaning of which is unknown. The new name did help distinguish them from Upper McCord Falls, which from certain viewpoints can be seen at the same time as Elowah Falls.
