As you can see in detail view 1, the bearded guide hasn't been able to restrain himself, and is gesturing with his left hand - translating into blurred motion in the old long-exposure-time glass plate. His clothing illustrates standard woodland attire of the time -- vest, hat, and a small pouch slung over one shoulder.
