This close-up photo shows a lot of detail, revealing some of the construction techniques for fish wheels.
Note the chutes on each side of the wheel that funneled the freshly caught fish to a waiting area under the canvas, out of the direct sun.
On the opposite bank is another, more stationary model of fish wheel.
Sold by Mayo & Weed of Chicago, this photo was probably taken by them, as they traveled to the west coast, including Alaska, to add to their offering of scenic photos.
