Details

In 1945, Chief Tommy Thompson was ninety years old; his last wife, Flora, was forty-seven. A powerful woman in her own right, Flora acted as his representative and spokesperson. In this photo they are preparing to join the annual Feast of the First Salmon at Celilo Falls. Note the large salt shaker in Flora's hand, visible in detail view 2.
